About us:
New Leaf Landscapes established in Brighton in 1999 undertaking all aspects of
hard and soft landscaping both in private gardens and commercial sub contractor.
Previously New Leaf was based in Wye, Kent, where I (Matt Hewes - that’s me - the proprioter)
had studied for a bachelor in science in Countryside management after completing my Diploma in
Horticulture. After finishing university I stayed in Kent to design and build gardens and teach
horticulture and organic crop production at Hadlow college in Canterbury.

Today New Leaf is myself and a helper or two. I do the design and costings and project management
as well as much of the work. For more specialist tasks such as bespoke timber construction, and large
scale rendering and brickwork jobs or electrics I call in local people who I know and trust to do a
quality job.
New Leaf also works collaboratively with other Brighton based horticultural businesses providing
design and specialist advice as well as project management and finishing for more specialist jobs
such as herbaceous planting or working with natural landscape materials. I also provide advice on
both plant selection and hard landscape materials.
New leaf will undertake most types of landscaping work as well as provide a design and consultation
service where a gardener is already present. I am happy to make a free initial site visit to discuss
work in and around Brighton and Hove.

What we do:
• Garden design and consultation with free initial garden visit.
• Planting plans and bed renovation / replanting plus lawn construction and renovation.
• Hard landscaping including paving (predominately using natural stone) as well as walling and step creation.
• Decking and timber work, as well as fencing and trellising.
• Pond construction and rockery construction and specialist planting.
• Garden conservation and creation of wildlife habitats.
• Garden maintenance and improvement (renovation and recreation).
• Winter pruning of trees and shrubs.
